“How far we’ve come” is something we say when we look back and feel proud of the progress we’ve made.

But have we moved forward, or have we pushed too far?

On his six-track album for 6XL, Daniel S. questions his own ambition. Will the work, and what he has put himself through, bring him closer to what he wanted? Or has chasing it become a habit?

The approach is minimal, the detail surgical, the hooks bold. Each track shows a different side of his musical handwriting.

You force the wind, then feel it turn against you. The rush becomes static. You keep pushing, but seem to stay in place. The ice reaches its triple point and begins to give way, exposing the rot inside. Dreams shatter. Slowly, you see what you lost along the way, and what you still want to stay with you.

“I think this is the best album I’ve made. Looking back, I can also see what it cost me. And yet part of me still feels it was necessary.”

Sounds like something worth celebrating, doesn’t it?
